Fibre Requirements
We process alpaca fleeces only. Sheep fleece must be pre-scoured at a commercial scour before it can be accepted for processing.
Processing fees are based on the incoming fleece weight, with minimum charge per batch is 1kg/yarn or 2kg/bumps/rug yarn. The average weight loss during processing is approximately 35%, although losses can be significantly higher depending on the condition of the fleece.
To minimise processing losses, fleeces should be thoroughly skirted, with as much vegetable matter (VM), dirt and other foreign material removed as possible.
We do not skirt fleeces. Fleeces must be prepared to a standard that you are happy to have reflected in your finished product.
All fleeces must be clean, dry and free from moth damage, excessive vegetable matter (VM) and other foreign matter.
We only process fleeces with a fibre length between 60 mm and 150 mm. Fleeces exceeding 150 mm will not be accepted for processing.
Fleeces must be delivered in clean, sealed bags, with a completed Fibre Processing Form placed inside each individual bag.
Vegetable Matter and Contamination
While every effort is made to remove vegetable matter (VM) during processing, we cannot guarantee that all VM will be removed from contaminated fleeces.
As a result, some VM may remain in the finished product, particularly when processing fine fleeces. The condition of the fleece at the time of receipt can significantly affect the final result.
Acceptance of Fleeces
We reserve the right to refuse any fleece that we consider unsuitable for processing. This includes, but is not limited to, moth-damaged, heavily contaminated or fleeces containing burr.
Any fleece refused for processing will be returned to the client at the client's expense.
Finished Product
Yarn is finished as standard in un-weighed skeins.
Deposits and Payment
Depending on the size of the processing order, a 50% deposit may be required before processing commences.
The remaining balance is payable upon completion and prior to collection or dispatch.
All invoices must be paid within 7 days of issue. Full payment must be received before any processed fleece or finished product is dispatched.
